INTO THE FOREST
In 1960, Jane moved to the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. At first, the chimpanzees were scared of her. Over time, Jane showed the chimpanzees she wasn’t a danger to them. The chimpanzees soon began showing her behaviors that would change science forever!
Jane saw a chimpanzee use a stick and grass to eat food. This proved people weren’t the only animals that made and used tools! Jane discovered chimpanzees were like humans in other ways, too. They were social and had emotions. Jane saw them hug, kidss, and even laugh!
