They said that seeds don’t grow here,

that plants don’t sprout at all.

But by the long dead riverbed

I dug a little hole.

They said the soil’s too dry here:

It will wither right away.

But we fetched water from the well

every single day.

They said the sun will burn it up.

we kept it fresh and cool.

They said the winds will blow it down.

We didn’t let it fall.

And though the sun was scorching hot,

and though the winds still blew,

we kept it sheltered, kept it fed,

and day by day…

…it grew

Above the ground it put up leaves,

below it reached down roots.

Its branched curves above our heads.

Then one day, we found…

… fruits!

And from each fruit

we took a seed

and put them in the ground.

we gave them water, gave them shade,

and kept them safe and sound.

[…]

The clouds were full of water.

The water turned to rain.

Until one day our country had

… a river once again!

[…]

And now the river’s flowing.

The Earth is full of trees.

You never saw so many birds

and animals and bees.
