Dear child of mine who is precious to me,
I’ll take you on a journey that’s free.
I’ll give you a glimpse of what love can see
beyond the skin that embraces your beauty.
My skin is mine. I am the only one like me.
My color is beautiful and as deep as the sea.
I take pride in my identity.
What goes through your mind
when you look at me?
My dear sweet girl, I see a queen.
Your roots are as rich as an evergreen.
I see the love you carry in your eyes.
Your soul is as bright as an eastern sunrise.
My skin is mine. No one else is like me.
I am more than what the eye can see.
I can’t hide my identity.
When you look at me, tell me what do you see?
When I look at you I see beyond
the bronze skin and curly hair of which I am fond.
I see a girl with dreams to spare.
You are bravery in flight taking on a dare.
My skin is mine. It is great to be me.
I love all that I was created to be.
I have a special identity.
What do your eyes see when you look at me?
When I look at you,  I see gold and riches.
You are as bright as midnight with a palm full of wishes.
I see the help you give to those in need.
Your spirit is full of the love you’ve received.
